Somatic Foundations for Facilitators
30-Hour Profe Somatic Foundations for Facilitators
30-Hour Professional Training
📍October 24–25 & November 28–29 (Live Online)Over the years, many facilitators reach a point where teaching becomes less about delivering a practice and more about understanding the person in front of them. You know how to guide a class, structure a session, and communicate clearly. Yet there are moments when you notice something deeper—a subtle change in breath, a protective contraction, a withdrawal, or a loss of connection—and you wonder how to meet it with greater sensitivity.
This is where somatic principles become invaluable.Drawing from contemporary somatic approaches, nervous system science, mindfulness, and embodied practice, this training explores how we can create learning environments that support awareness, regulation, and authentic experience.Rather than adding more techniques, the course helps you develop the capacity to:✨ Perceive what is happening beneath behaviour
✨ Work with the nervous system rather than against it
✨ Guide others in ways that feel safe, responsive, and groundedWhat we’ll explore:✔ How the nervous system organizes around safety and threat
✔ Recognising activation, shutdown, and regulation in real time
✔ Interoception and its role in awareness and emotional regulation
✔ Somatic principles including titration and pendulation
✔ Language that supports curiosity, choice, and embodied learning
✔ Structuring classes that encourage regulation and integration
✔ Staying connected to your own body while facilitating others
This training is designed for yoga teachers, movement educators, therapists, coaches, and facilitators who want to deepen the way they teach—not by adding more information, but by refining presence, observation, and embodied awareness.📍 Live on Zoom (recordings available)🎁 Participants receive 50% off all 1:1 Somatic Experiencing® & Yoga Therapy sessions during the training.Early Bird ends September 1st.

🌀The path of practice isn’t linear because we don’ 🌀The path of practice isn’t linear because we don’t simply accumulate knowledge—we continually reorganize our relationship with it.One of the most common assumptions about learning is that it should move in a straight line: we study something, understand it, and then move on to the next topic. But embodied learning rarely works that way. It is much more cyclical. We return to the same ideas over and over again, not because we failed to learn them the first time, but because each return offers a different perspective.Have you ever gone back to a workshop, reopened a book, or repeated a practice you thought you already knew, only to discover something entirely new? The material hadn’t changed. You had. Your experience, your attention, and your capacity to perceive had evolved, allowing the same teaching to reveal another layer of meaning. This is especially true in yoga and somatic practice. Reading about breathing is one form of learning. Feeling how your own breath changes under stress is another. Learning to recognize those subtle shifts while guiding another person deepens that understanding again. Knowledge is no longer something we simply collect; it becomes something we embody through repeated experience.I often think of practice as a spiral rather than a straight line. We keep returning to familiar themes—breath, posture, awareness, regulation, presence—but each time we do, we’re standing at a different point on the spiral. From the outside it may appear as repetition. From the inside, perception has become more refined.Perhaps this is why experienced teachers continue to return to the fundamentals. Not because they’ve run out of new things to learn, but because the fundamentals themselves keep changing as the practitioner changes. The practice hasn’t become repetitive; the relationship with the practice has become deeper. What is one teaching you’ve returned to over the years that continues to reveal something new?

🌀The body has more than one diaphragm. When we he 🌀The body has more than one diaphragm. When we hear the word diaphragm, we usually think of the muscle beneath the lungs that helps us breathe. But from a somatic perspective, the body contains several diaphragms—transition zones that both connect and separate different regions of the body.
These include the respiratory diaphragm, the pelvic floor, the thoracic inlet, the tongue, and the cranial base. These areas often reflect patterns of tension associated with unresolved stress and trauma. When the nervous system becomes overwhelmed, our natural defensive responses may become interrupted, leaving behind chronic patterns of holding. Over time, these patterns can influence how we breathe, move, stand, and even how we sense ourselves from within. For yoga teachers, this offers another way of understanding what you see in the practice room. A restricted breath, a jaw that won’t soften, a gripping pelvic floor, or a rigid posture may not simply be a mobility issue to stretch or correct—they may be part of the nervous system’s current strategy for protection.Rather than asking, “Where is the tight muscle?” somatic practice invites a different question:
“What is this tension trying to organize or protect?”Through awareness, breath, movement and yin practices, the diaphragms can gradually become more responsive and adaptable—not by forcing release, but by restoring the conditions for the body to feel safe enough to let go.This shift in perspective can change not only how we practice, but also how we teach.....
